Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League Announces New President & CEO

Today, the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League (MWUL) announced the appointment of Eric Jones as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, bringing more than a decade of nonprofit leadership experience and nearly nine years of service within the Urban League movement to the organization.

Jones is a proven nonprofit executive and community leader with a track record of strengthening organizations, expanding workforce and career opportunities, developing strategic partnerships, and connecting underserved and historically marginalized communities with resources that support long-term economic mobility.

“We are excited to welcome Eric Jones as the next President and CEO of the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League,” said Stephen Williams, Board Chair for the MWUL. “Eric brings a unique combination of Urban League experience, operational leadership, workforce development expertise, and a deep commitment to community. His proven ability to build partnerships and turn vision into action makes him the right leader to guide MWUL into its next chapter.”

Jones returns to the Urban League movement after nearly nine years with the Austin Area Urban League, where he advanced through a series of leadership roles, beginning as an Occupational Trainer and Workforce & Career Development Coordinator and ultimately serving as Vice President of Operations & Compliance. Throughout his tenure, he led critical functions including operations, compliance, workforce development, program execution, and organizational effectiveness.

Most recently, Jones served with Bastrop County Cares, providing leadership across community investment, program strategy, and compliance. Across his career, he has focused on strengthening programs, improving organizational performance, building cross-sector partnerships, and expanding access to opportunities that help individuals and families achieve economic stability and success.

“I am honored to join the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League and return to an organization and movement that have played such an important role in advancing opportunity and equity,” said Jones. “MWUL has a proud history of serving the Wilmington community, and I look forward to working alongside our staff, board, partners, and community to build on that legacy. Together, we will strengthen the organization, expand strategic partnerships, and create greater pathways to opportunity for the individuals and families we serve.”

As President and CEO, Jones will lead MWUL’s strategic direction and organizational growth, with a focus on strengthening its operational foundation, expanding partnerships, advancing workforce and economic opportunity, and ensuring the organization continues to meet the evolving needs of the Wilmington community.

Jones brings additional expertise in program development, fundraising, workforce readiness, organizational marketing, event strategy, and community engagement. He is recognized for building trusted relationships across sectors and developing innovative solutions that strengthen both institutions and the communities they serve.
